Giving is the primary, practical way we acknowledge that God is first in our lives and that everything belongs to God.
Proverbs 3:9-10 (ESV) Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the first fruits of all you produce; then your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will be bursting with wine.
Corinthians 9:6-7 (ESV) The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
Tithing and giving are responsibilities of every Christian, not just those with the gift of giving. The tithe is the first part of our income. Giving from a heart of love allows God to furnish the returns when we have given from a desire to help others and further His work.
